FLOWERs
The subject of flowers for me is an honouring of the beauty of our natural world and it’s fragility.
My nature based painting practise is mainly inspired by my love of Japanese aesthetics, as well as my personal interest in environmental issues. More recently, I’ve become deeply engaged in the writings and activism of the multihyphenate, William Morris - the leading figure of the 19th century Arts and Crafts Movement, his challenge of mass production with an emphasis on nature-inspired design and eco-socialist ideals.
Flowers can also be read as a symbol of impermanence. They may be delicate and short-lived, and in their various stages, flowers can remind us of the cycle of life and our place amongst all earthly beings.
